Yamaha Aerox 155 Scooter Might Launch Later In India- We Explain

$

Recently, the Yamaha Aerox 155 was spotted at one of the dealerships in India. It is a premium powerful scooter offering by Yamaha, with an expected price of around Rs 1 Lakh. It looks like a proper racing scooter, like the Aprilia SR 150. However, we expect it might not launch soon in India due to its heavy pricing.

Yamaha has always believed in performance two-wheelers. Most of its bike like the R15, R3, FZ-S all have decent performance qualities. Also, they are said to be quick in acceleration. In terms of scooters, it currently has Yamaha Cygnus, Alpha and Ray. These are decent priced scooters in the market. Moreover, if you see, Yamaha has focused mainly on giving performance two-wheelers at affordable prices in India. Meanwhile, recently, Yamaha Aerox 155, a premium and powerful scooter, was spotted on display at one of the dealerships. It basically comes as a racing scooter with a whopping 155cc engine. The same engine comes in the Yamaha R15. No doubt, the scooter will be the fastest one in India with premium features. But, is there really a need for such high priced performance scooters in a developing market like India? Even if launched, will it survive properly here? Yamaha Aerox 155

Yamaha Aerox 155 offers complete premium features, hardly ever seen on any automatic scooter. It comes with a 155cc VVT engine that produces 14.8 BHP worth of power and 13.8 Nm of peak torque. It gets a CVT gearbox. Aerox gets 14-inch alloy wheels equipped with Single-Channel ABS. As it is mandatory for two-wheelers powerful than 125cc to have ABS, Aerox gets one. However, the rear wheel gets a drum brake. In the front, it gets telescopic front forks while the rear gets a monoshock suspension unit. Other 150cc scooters include Aprilia SR150 and Vespa SXL 150. However, if seen, these models are not that much in demand, because India is not ready for such high priced scooters. Ideal scooters in demand range from Rs 55,000 to Rs 70,000. Yamaha Aerox is a power packed performer, but not ready for India.

Yamaha Aerox 155

Features of the Yamaha Aerox 155 include 5.8-inch digital instrument display, twin LED lamps, mobile charger, keyless ignition, Fuel Injection system, smart key system and ABS. Barring keyless ignition and FI system, rest of the features are found in many scooters like Gusto and TVS Ntorq. In the Indonesian market, it is priced for almost Rs 1.16 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Well, the Vespa also demands a price near this range, but as you see, it is not a successful one. You might hardly find an Aprilia SR 150 or a Vespa SXL 150 running on the roads.

Concluding, we are not sure if this scooter would not be in much demand in India. Our developing country still thrives for mileage oriented scooters and ideally, most of the scooters are priced between Rs 55,000 to Rs 70,000. Scooter is a basic necessity for Indians, helping in comfortable travelling at low cost. Currently, the demand for lifestyle bikes are growing, but not for lifestyle scooters. So, we expect it to launch in the Indian market, but a little later by another 2-3 years. Currently, if it is available at the dealership, it might be just for testing the customer demand.

Recently, there were some rumours about the naked streetfighter Yamaha M Slaz launching in India. It is basically a naked version of the R15, as it takes mechanical as well as some cosmetic underpinnings for R15. However, the M Slaz is not going to launch in the Indian markets. In this article, we explain why.

Yamaha has been giving some quick accelerating performance bikes for a long time. Even under a price of 2 Lakhs, it has the R15, Fazer 25 and the FZ25. These bikes offer great riding quality, better than some of its rivals. Some rumours about the Yamaha M Slaz launching in India were circulated. While the bike was launched 2 years back in the Thailand markets, it still has not come to India. We assume that the bike is currently not going to come to the Indian markets. The M-Slaz is the entry level bike of the MT series, which is famous globally for its naked street bikes. It uses R15’s styling elements with its 155cc SOHC engine. Features of the bike include LED headlamps and tail lamps, MT Ignition switch in place of push-button start, Front and Rear Disc Brake, Gold finish on front forks and an LCD Instrument console.

The next-generation Yamaha YZF R25 has been spotted testing in Indonesia. It sports an all-together new design with feature upgrades. The latest R25 is running in Malaysia. We expect the sportsbike to launch in India by end of 2019 or early 2020.

In India lineup, Yamaha has limited sportsbikes. Starting from R15, it has R3 and CBU R1. While Yamaha gives us pure performance oriented bikes, a need for more bikes is always felt. Meanwhile, the Yamaha YZF R25 has been spotted testing in Indonesia. It is already available in Malaysia and is expected to launch in Indonesia in the first half of 2019. Following which, it would come to India by end of 2019 or starting of 2020. The next-generation version sports an all-together new design with some more features. Now, it looks similar to R3, also looking like an elder version of the R15. In India, it will face competition with Honda CBR 250R, KTM Duke 200 and TVS Apache RR 310. We expect it to be priced around Rs 2 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Check out more details of the upcoming bike.

The spy images show that it gets split headlights, which will be mostly LED units. It gets an air-intake vent between the split headlights, just like in the R15 V3. As you can see, it gets gold finished USD forks against the telescopic function on the R15. Other expected features of the bike include radially-mounted calipers and an LCD unit instead of a semi-digital one on the R15. Overall, it will take a lot of design cues from the R15 and R3.

The Yamaha YZF R25 will sport a 249cc Fuel Injection parallel twin engine. It will continue with its Variable Valve Actuation technology. The engine churns out 35 BHP of power and 22.6 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed Multi Plate wet clutch, instead of a slipper clutch.

Another highlight of the Yamaha bikes includes its Light-weight Diamond frame chassis, which puts the rider in a committed riding position with great comfort.

Following the Yamaha YZF R25, we might also see the next-generation of Yamaha R3. The 300cc sportsbike was launched back in 2014 and is popular for its quick acceleration, great handling, and tractable engine. The new platform for R25 will give way for the R3.

The next-generation R3 will get some more features along with improved performance. The Yamaha YZF R3 comes with a 321cc parallel twin liquid cooled engine, that produces around 41 BHP of power and 29.6 Nm of torque. The sportsbike comes mated to a 6-speed Multi-plate wet clutch. It gets Long Swing-arm suspension which gives more power to the rear wheel and also eases during cornering. Other features include ABS, Mono-Shock Suspension, Metzeler Sportec M5 Radial tires, LED tail lights and LED lights on the instrument panel. However, it still goes with the halogen bulb headlamp.

Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 – Design

The new Yamaha R15 V3.0 looks sportier than V2.0. Thanks to many new body panels and bits like USD forks, the Version 3.0 looks bigger. Also, new color options and sporty decals should make the bike more attractive. The ‘pièce de résistance’ are new LED headlamps. Once aboard, you’ll be quick to appreciate the new digital speedo console. Also, the bike could have a more comfortable seating position for both the rider and the pillion. It’s worth a mention that the V2.0 has faced a lot of flak for an uncomfortable pillion seat. Some design inspiration could also come from the YZF R125 and YZF R6. Between the international V3.0 and Indian model, the former looks sportier thanks to upside-down front forks and alloy foot pegs. Both of these are missing from the Indian model.

Yamaha RX 100 Will Never Relaunch; Here Is The Reason Why

$

0

Yamaha RX 100 is one of the most popular yesteryear bikes in India, which has a cult following till date. Many of you are still searching for a second hand or old RX 100 online. However, we have written this article to clarify that the rumors of the RX 100 launching in India is fake and would never return back.

Who would not love to have the Yamaha RX 100 again? One of the iconic bikes in India set a benchmark for all the bikes. It is the only 100cc bike that looked sporty enough and was performance oriented. Unlike the 100-110cc bikes today which look dull but give good mileage. At that time, the RX 100 came for a mere Rs 19,000. Now, you might find a damaged and dismantled RX 100 in that price. If you look for a properly maintained one, be ready to shell out 30,000 – 50,000 buck easily. Such is the power and loving on this bike. Anyhow, some time ago, rumors of the RX 100 launching again in India started going around. The rumor was a delight to the ears but unfortunately is not true. As confirmed by Yamaha Motors themselves, the bike is never returning back.

Yamaha RX 100

Yamaha RX 100’s agility was discovered by drag racers, who were shocked to see such quick acceleration in such a small bike. By the time it became a hit, every Indian was ‘oomphing’ over it, as it was called ‘King of the Indian roads’.

Now, you might see a limited number of RX 100s plying, because of the stricter norms. You might also spot the occasional RX 135 or RX-Z, which had similar chassis but different engines. However. these two bikes did not make it as large as RX 100. The love for this bike is infinite and this one put Yamaha as one of the top bike makers in India in the 1980s. We all pray for its return, but Yamaha has no plans to start the production of RX 100.

The rumors about Yamaha RX 100 coming in a 4-stroke engine started somewhere around 2016. It emerged that a custom Yamaha RX-135 has been exhibited at a motor show in Malaysia. The legendary two-stroke motorcycle has got a purple chrome paint finish and golden highlights. The RX 135 has been known as the RX-K 135 in some markets where the K stands for King.

RX 135 was Yamaha RX 100’s older brother, which was available in the market till 2005. In the late 1990s, the emission norms grew stricter and were directed towards 4-stroke engine bikes. So, RX 100 shut and the RX 135 was launched with a 4-stroke engine. Following which, RX-Z, a typical old-school sports bike was also launched. The RX-Z was a huge hit amongst the youth. However, RX 135 did not have the same chutzpah as the RX 100 and it was not much successful.

Yamaha RX 100

The 1985 RX 135 that was on sale in some international markets got a bikini fairing and a tailpiece. In the custom bike here, things like the handlebar, grab rail, mud-guards, crankcase, front forks and the exhaust have been chrome-plated. The custom RX 135 here sports Showa front fork and Ohlins gas-charged rear shock-absorbers. The modified RX-135 you see here also sports Binter AR125 mag wheels and a disc brake at front with Nissin calipers. The speedo console and the Rear View Mirrors have been carried over from the stock bike.

Highlighting the popularity of the Yamaha RX 135 amongst enthusiasts, in 2016, a news had emerged that a dealer in Bengaluru has auctioned off seven units of the iconic motorcycle for five-figure sums.

Rahul S Dhojanna, who owns Pace Motors, claims that enthusiasts at the auction shelled out around INR 1.5-165 lacs for the RX135 models. The dealer had been trying to sell these units for quite some time now but had to wait in order to obtain necessary permissions from the RTO as registration of two-stroke bikes had been stopped.

Yamaha India currently has no presence in the 100-110 cc segment with their lowest capacity motorcycle being the Saluto. Currently, Yamaha says that it is focused on developing entry level 100-110 CC bikes. It had earlier planned of relaunching the legend, but the production costs and a 4-stroke engine led down the decision.

2019 Yamaha R3 design images are leaked and it looks like it gets some revisions to the body. Mechanically, it will continue with the parallel twin engine. It mainly rivals against the Kawasaki Ninja 300.

Yamaha has been giving pure performance motorcycles for many years, now. Right from the RX 100 to R1, all are well known for its quick acceleration figures. In India, the most popular ones are Yamaha R15 and FZ-S. This year, the third generation of the R15 was launched in India. It received a huge makeover with some of the latest features onboard. Now, we get some patented design images of the 2019 Yamaha R3. Looks like this bike also gets a serious makeover.

2019 Yamaha R3

The 2019 Yamaha R3 gets toned down muscles, making it a sharper looking motorcycle. The front panel will be revised and the 2019 iteration will get a bigger air intake. Since it is a bit sharper, it looks sportier than the current generation R3.

Some revisions are also made to the fuel tank and it gets Yamaha’s trademark gills. However, the alloy wheels, the rear portion, and the exhaust muffler designs remain the same as the current R3.

Currently, the R3 comes with Telescopic fork suspension in the front. The 2019 iteration will come with USD forks in the front suspension. However, the global spec will definitely come with that and we do know about the Indian version.

The Indian version might get inverted forks, which are also seen on the R15 V3. The seating arrangement will be a proper committed riding style but will ensure pure comfort. Rest of the design things will be continued from the current-spec Yamaha R3.

Mechanically, it will continue with the same 321cc liquid cooled parallel twin engine. The engine produces 42 BHP of max. power and 29.6 Nm of peak torque. Some reports suggest that the 2019 Yamaha R3 will get the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Most probably, the 2019 Yamaha R3 will be unveiled at the EICMA 2018. Following this, the bike will launch in India after mid-2019. In India, the R3 competes with the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 300, Benelli TNT 300 and BMW G310 Twins. Amongst these bikes, it squarely aims towards the Ninja 300.

Recently, the prices of the Ninja 300 were reduced. The move was done after heavy localization of spare parts, which reduced the costs. Also, the prices were reduced to bring it in competition with the BMW G310 twins.

Yamaha has taken the wraps off the naked streetfighter MT-15. Yamaha MT-15 is a naked version of the popular R15 V3. The bike has been unveiled in Thailand. There are no any other details on the India launch of this bike.

Yamaha bikes are very popular in the biking world. One of the fastest ones in the world is the great Yamaha R1. In India, the most popular one is the R15. Despite having a huge price difference between the other 150cc bikes, it is a complete entry-level sportsbike. We can say that this is amongst the very few 150cc bikes that are track ready. Now, in Thailand, Yamaha has unveiled a naked street-fighter version of the R15, by the name of Yamaha MT-15.

Yamaha MT-15 front image

In India, we have 2 superbikes available – Yamaha R1 and MT-09. MT is basically the naked street-fighter range which has bikes from 700cc to 1000cc. Along with the Yamaha MT-15, the bike maker has also unveiled the new MT-03, a naked version of the R3.

The Yamaha MT-15 gets an all-new bug-eyed LED headlamp. From the side, it looks similar to the elder sibling, MT-09. The muscular fuel tank, single seat, engine belly pan, and the gold-anodized USD Forks make the street fighter look more gorgeous. It also carries Yamaha R15’s digital instrument cluster.

The naked street bike uses an all-new 155cc liquid cooled engine. Reports say that it might also get the Variable Valve Actuation, just like in the latest-generation R15. VVA system helps in keeping the torque figures high even in low RPM. Also, the engine will come paired to a slipper clutch.

This engine churns out 19 HP of maximum power and 14.8 Nm of torque. For transmission, there is a 6-speed gearbox. Yamaha claims that the newly developed engine offers better low-end and mid-range figures.

The MT-15 gets 37 mm USD Forks in the front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at the rear. For braking, the bike gets disc brakes in the front and rear. It features ABS, which is due soon in the Yamaha R15.

The Yamaha MT-15 India launch is not clear as of now. The Indian market has FZ-25 as the naked street fighter. The FZ-25 comes with a price tag lower than the R15 itself. In India, if the MT-15 comes it will be priced over the FZ-25, as well. Obviously, most of the people would pick the more powered bike.

Next-Gen Yamaha FZ-S FI has been spotted testing in India. The new FZ-S might launch in 2019 with BS-VI engines. It will get full LED headlamps and digital instrument cluster.

Yamaha FZ is one of the first naked 150cc bikes in India. Yamaha bikes are known for great performance, and so is the FZ. As per Government’s rules, every two-wheeler above 125cc must have ABS as standard fitment. So, after a recent facelift to the FZ-S, we have spy pictures of the next-gen Yamaha FZ-S FI, which were spotted testing on roads. The test mules were heavily camouflaged, but we can see a lot of revisions over the bike. You can read more about the FZ-S FI here.

Next-Gen Yamaha FZ-S FI

The next-gen Yamaha FZ-S FI follows the typical FZ series silhouette. The beefier tank and the sharp muscle creases indicate that it could borrow some styling cues from the FZ25. The more premium FZ25 sports a sharp design with much more sportier looks than the current FZ.

Based on the test mules, we say that the next-gen Yamaha FZ-S FI will reportedly get full LED lamps, a digital instrument cluster and LED tail lights. It will introduce a single-channel ABS setup paired up with front and rear disc brakes. Reports say that it might sport clip-on handlebars in the next-gen.

Revisions to the bodywork include a beefier fuel tank, rear tyre hugger, a bigger heat shield on the exhaust and a single seat. The next-gen Yamaha FZ-S FI continues with the conventional telescopic forks and the same set of alloy wheels, diamond frame chassis, turn indicators and fully digital instrument cluster.

The engines on the next-gen FZ-S will continue to be the same set. It will run on the same 149cc air-cooled SOHC engine tuned to meet BS-VI. The engine puts out 13 BHP and 12.8 Nm of peak torque. The engine pairs up with a 5-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch. For better fuel efficiency and performance, the bike uses a Fuel Injection system.

As of now, the Yamaha FZ-S FI is one of the popular bikes in its segment and is also the best selling Yamaha product. The naked bike competes with the likes of Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R, Bajaj Pulsar NS160, and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. Amongst its rivals, only Gixxer and Hornet get optional ABS setup.

The Yamaha FZ-S FI is priced at Rs 87,542 (ex-showroom Delhi). With the inclusion of ABS, the prices can increase by Rs 5000 or so.

Yamaha Nmax scooter in works; to rival Aprilia SR150

Yamaha NMax 150cc scooter is rumoured to launch in India. It will be a maxi-scooter and will rival the likes of Aprilia SR150 and Vespa SXL 150. As of now, there are only two 150cc scooters in India.

Yamaha currently has no 125cc scooters in India. It has 5 scooters in its kitty, but all of them are 110cc ones. On the other hand, the 125cc segment is rising rapidly in India. As the 125cc segment scooters offer more power as well as more features. So, for daily commutes on the highway, people are preferring this over 110cc ones. Looks like Yamaha is skipping the 125cc segment and directly taking on the 150cc department. Reports say that Yamaha NMax 150cc scooter might debut in India in 2019.

Yamaha NMax 150cc scooter

Yamaha NMax is basically a maxi-styled scooter. Examples of maxi-styled scooters in India include Burgman Street and now defunct, Kinetic Blaze. Technically, Burgman Street is not a proper maxi-scooter. Its design is inspired by the globally popular Burgman maxi-scooter.

Also Read: Yamaha Ray ZR Street Rally Edition Price, Mileage, Images And Colors

Maxi-scooters are styled very unusually. They get a disproportionate looking body, with a larger front portion and comparatively smaller rear portion. The handlebars are placed on the front apron, instead of the normal design. They offer immense comfort and are primarily meant for long touring.

In the front, Yamaha NMax gets a rather large front apron with an attached headlamp as well as a windscreen. The handlebars are placed on the front apron, because of which the headlamps do not turn with the handle.

The scooters in India get a hollow space between the seat and the handle, which is much lesser in maxi-scooters. The body panels come up almost till the seat and the footpegs are beside the panel, like a typical cruiser. The seat of maxi-scooters is generally huge, which will the same case for NMax as well. Besides, it also gets a sporty exhaust muffler.

Also Read: Yamaha FZ-S FI V 2.0 Price In India, Top Speed, Mileage, Features And More

Reports say that the Yamaha NMax will use R15 V3’s 155cc liquid cooled engine. The power figures won’t be the same as the R15, obviously. Globally, its 155cc engine produces 14 BHP and 14.4 Nm of peak torque. The figures are much higher than that of SR150, which puts out 10.4 BHP and 11.4 Nm. However, for fuel efficiency, the scooter might get a retuned engine.

Yamaha NMax will offer a plethora of latest features, including a fully digital speedometer, ABS, front disc brakes, LED headlamps and LED tail lamps. The digital speedometer might get connected to Bluetooth for GPS navigation, call alert and notifications and advanced telematics. This feature comes in the TVS Ntorq 125.

As of now, no further details are known. If the Yamaha NMax is launching in India, we expect it to cost around Rs 80,000-90,000, easily. If it retains the global bodywork for the Indian market, then it would pull off as a touring scooter.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – An affordable everyday sportsbike

Check out our Yamaha R15 V3 Review. We have talked about its looks, top speed, acceleration, features and all the other aspects.

A proud grin came under my helmet as I stretched out the legs of Yamaha R15 V3. As I revved up the engine, my smile grew wider. Such is the charm of this mean machine. So, we got to test the Yamaha R15 V3 for a couple of days. It is one mean monster, ready to show off its juicy engine. Despite being a mere 155cc bike, it does not feel like one. Without bragging more about the bike here, check out our review of Yamaha R15 V3. I have written everything you need to know about the looks, performance and ergonomics of the bike.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Design and Styling

R15s have always looked sporty and mean all the time. Well, the R15 V3 just got better. To start off, it now looks similar to its elder siblings, R3 and R1. The V3 gets sharper, bolder and more muscular than the previous generation. The split LED headlamps with the air-intake between them gives an aggressive stance by just looking them from the front. The fuel tank is more sculpted and over the body, what you will find is just muscle creases. The dual-tone Black and Blue colour truly fit in with its sporty behaviour.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

What makes it look more race-track material are the clip-on handlebars. Speaking of which, the quality of the switches is pretty good and feels premium. The indicators are placed below the rake, which you can see sometimes. So for that, it should have come with auto-cancelling indicators.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

The high split seat reminds that despite being a 155cc bike, it is a true sports bike. To be frank, I like the alloy wheels in this more than the V2 but not better than V1.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

To sum it all, the Yamaha R15 V3 is one such bike that whenever you see one, you can’t take eyes off it. Without any loud decals and graphics over the body, it still looks the sportiest of the lot. The sexy, smouldering look just does not fade away easily in your mind.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Acceleration and top speed

I have ridden the R15 V2 a couple of times and for sure, the power and acceleration have increased. The power delivery of V3 is straight up by 2.5 BHP from the V2. Thanks to the VVA system, the torque delivery is quicker and spread out than before. The VVA system basically helps in pumping out more torque at the lower range as well as higher ends. The VVA system kicks in from 7,400 RPM and it gets even more interesting.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

The Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) is a system which gives a quicker throttle response and provides a linear and increased torque in low-end as well as high-end.

As the bike starts off at 5000 RPM (for example), with the VVA kicking in, you feel the engine dolling out oodles of torque and power as well. With every gear up, the engine gets more and more eager to accelerate and shows its prowess.

Many of you might have a perception that since its just a 155cc bike, it might offer an average performance just like the other 150cc bikes. The answer is NO! It classifies as an everyday sportsbike and can easily touch triple digit speeds in no time.

In this, the lower, mid as well as high range, everything is perfect. At least better than the V2, which was a bit too jerky and gave unsatisfied city performance.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Even at 4th gear, you can easily cross the 90 km/hr mark and it shows no signs of retreat. For full power, you gotta keep it full throttle and then the fun starts. The slip and assist clutch makes the gear shifting easy and light. The Yamaha R15 V3 gets a quick gear-shifting ratio, which makes the revving up feel like an adrenaline rush and not as a compulsion. This clutch is beneficial for long touring as well as the city’s stop and go traffic.

The R15 sprinted from 0-100 km/hr mark in almost 10.5 seconds. The sprint is quicker than some 200cc bikes. For a 155cc bike, the figure is just too perfect. As I shifted up to 6th gear at the limit of 10000 RPM, I could achieve a top speed of around 133 km/hr.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

The R15 gets a 155cc liquid cooled engine that churns out 19.3 horses at 10000 RPM and 15 Nm of peak torque. The figures have increased a bit over the last generation. It pairs up with a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch. The gearbox is one of the best ones I have seen, primarily because of the quick shifting.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Ride and handling

The Yamaha R15 V3 gets an increased seat height of 15 mm and lower placed handlebars. As a result, it offers a more dedicated riding position, making it easier on the aggressive turns.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

While cornering the bikes, it felt extremely easy to manoeuvre. Its nimble handling makes the bike easier to zip through the traffic as well as cornering the turns.

At cruising speeds of 110-120 km/hr, the vibrations were obviously high but exciting. It did not wobble at all, as it weighs 139 kgs. The weight has also increased by 3 kgs over the V2.

Since it does not offer radial tyres at the front as well as the rear, you take time to trust this bike. (You can opt for Metzeler radials at the rear as an accessory). The rear tyre is wider than the previous generations and provides decent grip over the road.  As I rode it every day, the confidence increased and slowly I began to trust the bike. But it still did not gain my full trust.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Yamaha R15 V3 uses the same Deltabox frame but with a wider swingarm. The bike uses conventional 41mm telescopic forks (missing out on USDs) and Swing arm link suspension in the rear. Despite using conventional forks, the jerks felt were minimal and it seemed to soak every pothole or uneven road.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Braking

The V3 offers a BYBRE hydraulic disc brake in the front and Nisin callipers at the rear. BYBRE is basically an Indian version of the Brembo brakes. As per my knowledge, the Nisin brakes are a bit better than the BYBRE ones.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Leaving this, the R15 still does not offer ABS. This is the reason why it did not gain my full trust.  For a bike having such immense power, it becomes a bit difficult to control sudden braking. Nonetheless, the brakes were good enough but at certain times, though the rear tyre would skid off. With government’s new safety norms, it will be offered with ABS after April 2020. That would just literally complete the bike.

Due to absence of ABS, it took a couple of tests for a proper braking result. In the braking test from 100-0 km/hr, it took me around 4.5 seconds to come to a standstill. See, not that bad.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Comfort

With the lowered clip-on bars, the bike offers a more dedicated riding position. I covered around 150 kms on a single run and my back wasn’t aching a bit. But the wrists were gone and that’s when I realized I have to start going to the gym again. The seat was pretty comfortable and can easily take you for longer rides. However, if you want to make it a daily commuter, you need to get a habit of that dedicated position. As mentioned earlier, the increased seat height does not make it much of a problem.

Let me clear this very clear, it is not meant for PILLION RIDERS. Well, you can surely accommodate them, but they would probably scream at you for taking the bike to high speeds. The bike has no pillion grab rails. So either the pillion rider leans completely on you or sits uptight, praying that the rider does not accelerate or brake suddenly. Saying that the young college goers would love to have their girlfriends behind (Just kidding, Yamaha!)

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Mileage

Most of you would expect that since its a sports bike it will have a lesser mileage figure. Oh boy, you have it all wrong. Despite my hard acceleration and braking, it delivered a whopping mileage of 43 kmpl in the city. I could not have much highway cruising, but with whatever I did, it delivered around 51 kmpl on the highway. Right on the odometer, it is showing an average mileage of 50 kmpl. Great performance doubled up with fuel efficiency. What else do you need?

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

Yamaha R15 V3 Review – Features

Now, the features onboard include twin-LED headlamps, clip-on handlebars, LED tail lamp, assist and slipper clutch, the VVA technology and a fully digital instrument cluster. The digital cluster shows RPM, speedometer, 2 trip meters, fuel gauge, Odometer, gear position, instant fuel consumption, average fuel indicator, average speed and a clock. It does miss out on lap timing and riding range, which could have come in handy. The average fuel indicator shows litre per 100 kms, which you can convert to kmpl. The digital cluster starts with a ‘Hi Buddy’ message and ends with a ‘See You’ message. Once you cross the 7400 RPM, it also shows the VVA sign.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

The twin-LED lamps offer decent visibility at the darkest of hours. It also offers a USB charger as an additional accessory. The remaining feature is ABS as of now.

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

The bike as such has no direct competition. No 150cc bike is powerful enough to match up to the might of R15. However, indirectly, it falls in the range of Pulsar RS200, Apache RTR 200 4V and Pulsar NS 200. Earlier, there was the CBR 150, but it was recently stopped. RS200 is the nearest full fairing sports bike in this price league.

Verdict – Whether you should buy it or not?

Yamaha R15 V3 Review

You can try and try but will fail to register a dislike for this mean machine. It has great road presence, great performance, excellent riding manners and of course, an aggressive and hot bod. Barring ABS, I could not find any fault in the bike. It just completes as an all-rounder. The Yamaha R15 V3 qualifies as a daily commuter as well as a race-track ready machine. Not every bike can earn this title. At a price of Rs 1.25 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), it is the cheapest full-faired performance bike in India. It comes at an affordable price and is great on the pocket too. For young riders out there, here is your affordable everyday performance bike.

This engine will be paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The MT-03 borrows its styling cues from bigger bikes such as the MT-09. In the features department, this bike will likely come with ABS as standard equipment. Yamaha may give it a slipper clutch too but the likelihood of that happening is low. Expect this bike to come to India in Black and Blue colours sometime in 2019. Its competition will include BMW G310R and KTM Duke 390.

The new 100cc scooter from Yamaha will likely be a replacement for the Cygnus Alpha scooter. The sales of the Cygnus Alpha have not been as great as Yamaha would have liked while the Fascino has been doing quite nicely. So, the new 100cc scooter will likely draw styling inspiration from the Fascino. However, its proportions will likely be similar to the Cygnus Alpha. It will likely sport the same 113cc carbureted engine as on the Cygnus Alpha and will likely make 9BHP power and 9Nm torque with an automatic gearbox onboard. Yamaha India to focus more on developing premium bikes in India, rather on the commuter segment. It will include bikes over 150cc and premium scooters above 125cc too.

Yamaha Motors has been performing well with its premium bikes, mostly over 150cc. In the commuter segment, it hardly has any play. Its popular bikes include FZ series, Fazer and R15 series. Other than that, it also has a couple of more premium bikes as well.

Soon, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer will start focusing on developing the premium two-wheeler segment in India. This includes bike above 150cc and scooters above 125cc.

In the Indian markets, the commuter segment is usually dominated by Hero and Bajaj. Other players like Honda and TVS also have low share in this segment. Yamaha only has Saluto and SZ-S in the commuter segment motorcycles. However, both its scooters come in the 110cc segment.

As per ET, the manufacturer wants to expand his share to 10% in the coming 5-7 years in India. Based on the regular sales figures, it seems like all of its premium bikes are garnering more sales than the commuter ones.

As per the company’s CEO, the younger generation has shifted its focus on premium bikes rather than commuter motorcycles. The company wants to make its own space in the market for performance bikes.

The company is also studying motorbikes above 300cc and is considering them to launch in India. It has R3, R1 and MT-09 above 300cc. Globally, it has a couple of more bikes above 300cc.

Among the upcoming new bikes, there are possibilities of MT-15, MT-03 and updated versions of R3 and FZ-S FI. MT series is the street naked bikes, based on the fully faired versions. MT-15 is basically the naked version of R15 and same goes for MT-03.

Yamaha also plans to introduce a new 150cc scooter in India. NMax has already been spotted in India at a dealership. It will compete with the likes of Aprilia SR150 and Vespa SXL150.

For the past couple of years, its overall performance is average. As per data records, in FY18, the brand has managed to cross 7.92 Lakh units in a year, dropping down to a 4% decrease. The overall market grew by 15% at that time.

The comeback of Yamaha RX100 has been hinted by the brand’s CEO. The legendary bike’s character might be used in one of Yamaha’s upcoming bikes in India.

Yamaha Motorcycles is known for its performance oriented bikes. Right from its birth, the Japanese two-wheeler maker has been developing performance bikes, which are quite popular globally.

One such product from its lineup includes the RX100. The legendary bike was an instant hit in India, thanks to its quick acceleration, peppy engine and lightweight. The 100cc bike was every teenager’s dream and for some, it is still a dream now.

After the stricter emission norms, Yamaha RX100 was stopped in 1996. After that, it became a collectable and people are ready to pay as high as 1 Lakh for a proper restored model.

Now, here is a news to rejoice for. At a recent interview of Yamaha CEO, Motofumi Shitara said to ET Auto about its plan to focus on premium motorcycles. It plans to bring bikes to India which are above 150cc. In this interview, Shitara hinted something about the RX100.

He said, that Yamaha RX100 might not come back as the original version but its character might be used in upcoming Yamaha bikes. So you can expect a new bike with the silhouette of the Yamaha RX100.

As of now, there are no further details available about the upcoming bike. If a bike comes with Yamaha RX100’s characteristics, it will be an instant hit.

The original RX100 came with a 100cc engine that was more powerful than many 200cc bikes. It came with a body of regular commuter motorcycles and did not offer a disc brake with it.

Over the years, RX100 was a successful choice which increased Yamaha’s dominance in the Indian market. After the bike was stopped, the brand tried coming with RX-Z and RX135 as replacements. However, none of them could garner fame like the Yamaha RX100.

Yamaha recently revealed its plan to focus more on premium segment motorcycles. This includes bikes above 150cc and particularly above 300cc. The primary reason is that Yamaha’s premium bikes are more popular than its commuter ones.

So, there are chances the characteristics of RX100 might come in a bike powered by a 300cc engine or more. While the news is still unclear, we expect the legendary bike to make a comeback in India.
